Author Gina Gallagher Visits REC

In May, local author Gina Gallagher visited REC to share her lovely book, Reading With Remmy, with our kindergarten, first, and second grade students.  Our students decorated the library with pictures of Remmy and asked great questions about writing stories and making books. Remmy is a goldendoodle who loves people. Finley is a little girl who loves reading at the library. But when reading, Finley can't make sense of the words. A chance encounter between Remmy and Finley leads to many hours of reading practice. For children struggling to read, Reading With Remmy is an encouraging reminder to keep practicing and if possible, seek out a fluffy sympathetic listener.

Gina Gallagher's beautiful story is inspired by a real life goldendoodle that she wanted to assist her in the classroom as a reading specialist. But for a dog to work in a classroom, the training and certification requirements can be challenging and long for an energetic dog. When Remmy could not pass the canine obedience tests, he became the main character in Gina's first children's book.

Thank you to our wonderful PTO for buying five copies of Mrs. Gallagher's book for our library.  And thank you to our amazing librarian, Mrs. Passerini, for bringing these wonderful experiences to REC. You make so many students LOVE reading each and every day at REC!
