Learning how to be an EMT

On March 27, the students at REC had an amazing day learning from our community members during Career Field Day. Members from our community spent the day at our school as classrooms rotated to different rooms and locations throughout the school to provide information and interactive activities for the students to learn about their career.

Students learned about the equipment used in an ambulance and how EMTs handle medical situations on their ambulance calls.

They had an opportunity to learn about operating heavy machinery and had fun beeping the horn.

Students went outside in the garden to learn about outdoor classrooms while playing predator vs. prey.

The Robeson Police Department made sure students knew an important phone number for their family, created their own badges, and had the opportunity to interact with police safety gear and sit in a police car.

An air traffic controller taught REC students about her important job and the different types of aircraft that use an airport.

Students viewed and participated in science experiments that examine how everyday items we use can affect the environment.

Students became body detectives and used clues to show what factors make changes in the shape, texture, and color of our poop using playdough.

A cardiologist taught students how the heart functions and how heart complications are fixed. Students were allowed to touch a heart and the tiny tools that are used to fix one.

Students learned about different kinds of trains, train communication, and how trains and train tracks are kept safe.

They learned about the skills needed to be an army ranger and played a leadership game to show how important teamwork is.

An interior designer taught students how to plan and design a space through designing mood boards to make the connection of how rooms can take on their own moods. The students found out how important it is to keep their body and mind strong through participating in physical activity.

Students met a lawyer who helped them understand what’s required to open a small business like an ice cream shop and serve on a mock trial.

REC students learned how to defend themselves by using a loud voice, blocking techniques, and strong kicks.  Even the teachers took some turns at practicing these self defense techniques.

We appreciated every presenter, every volunteer, and all the amazing staff for making Career Field Day an amazing experience and helping REC students consider what kind of career they may want to pursue someday.
