Thank you Veterans

On Tuesday, November 11th, Robeson Elementary Center spent the morning honoring local Veterans and active military members. The hallways were beautifully decorated with patriotic artwork by the students and pictures of our students' loved ones who served in our military. Mrs. Giles, our REC art teacher, provided time in art class for the students to create the beautiful decorations. The morning began with the Veterans enjoying refreshments and conversation in the cafeteria. Many smiles and hugs were enjoyed when the students who attend REC were able to join their loved ones in the cafe. Thank you to our wonderful PTO who organized the breakfast and provided additional decorations that made our Veterans Day program an amazing sight to see.

Our Veterans later made their way to the gym to enjoy our annual Veterans Day program. Mrs. Lysa Dieffenbach kicked off the program with a musical performance by third grade. The audience then pledged the flag and sang The Star Spangled Banner. Principal, Mrs. Michelle Ward, welcomed everyone to the program with the help of fourth graders who shared why Robeson Elementary Center is proud of our Veterans. A chair was reserved for all the Veterans who were no longer with us and a folded flag was placed on the chair to remember them. The audience was then entertained by our third and fourth graders who performed an Allegiance Rap.

The song representing each branch of the military was played while each member in attendance was asked to stand and by recognized. After everyone was seated, the program took a more serious tone. To show that our Veterans are not forgotten, the name of a deceased Veteran was read and a single chime was rung, followed by the playing of Taps. A moment of silence was also held.

Mrs. Lysa Dieffenbach provided the closing remarks for the program, reminding us all of the sacrifices Veterans make to be sure our country is safe and our Constitutional freedoms are protected. The grand finale was the entire student body singing God Bless the USA.

Robeson Elementary Center would lile to thank all the Veterans and active military members who were in attendance. We honor you and thank you for your service.
