Welcome Message

Hello, REC Families!  I hope you are enjoying your summer and filling it with fun memories.  My name is Michelle Ward, and I am so excited to join the Robeson Elementary Family this school year.  Having spent most of my career as a first grade and fifth grade teacher in the Wilson School District, I have always valued creating a positive and engaging learning environment where children love coming to school.  For the past three school years, I transitioned into administration as the assistant principal at Brandywine Heights Intermediate and Middle School.  During this time, I committed myself to being visible in the halls and classrooms, developing positive connections with the students and staff, supporting staff with consistent communication and appreciation, and rolling out new initiatives that improved the school culture in the building.

My philosophy, “Every Person Matters….Every Moment Counts”  will continue to inspire my leadership goals at REC.  You will find my enthusiasm and energy infectious as I strive to create a learning environment where students can reach their fullest potential.  With a focus on student engagement, small group targeted skill remediation and enrichment, opportunities to strengthen students’ social/emotional skills through the Robeson ROCKS philosophy, and keeping families connected to their child’s educational experience through in-person school events and an active social media account/website, my goal is to take this first year to be immersed in the REC day-to-day interactions with students, staff, and families as I get to meet everyone and create meaningful relationships that will promote a positive and safe school environment.

Not wanting to wait until Back-to-School Night to meet students and families, I would like to invite you to stop by REC for “Popsicles with the Principal.”  I will be at the lower playground from 3:00pm - 4:00pm on Monday through Wednesday 8/4-8/6 (rain location will be under the main entrance portico).  This will give you and your child an opportunity to meet me, enjoy a popsicle, and be able to recognize a smiling face on the first day of school.  Hope to see you next week, but if not, I will be kicking off Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 21st at 5:00 for Kindergarten families and 6:00 for Grade 1 - 4 families.  I look forward to partnering with you to create many positive and fun memories during the 25-26 school year.

Have a wonderful rest of your week and enjoy the remaining days of summer!
